How does CaroCare Vård work?
CaroCare Vård is a small private doctor’s office in Uppsala with the goal of satisfied and well-treated patients over time. An active dialogue and the patient’s narrative are central. Important questions, which are more standardized, can be filled in at home and easily communicated electronically. Also, administration plays a vital role in the office. It is not only when the patient is in the room that healthcare takes place. Things communicated must also be analyzed. Appointments can easily be booked when it suits you: on-site, digitally, or via a short phone call. The practice will only have so many memberships, so that high quality care can be provided with easy access to visits.
No surgical procedures or injections are performed, and emergency medical care is not provided. The reason for this is that the premises are not adapted to those purposes, equipment is not available, and it would require more accessibility than is possible in a practice with only one doctor. However, other conditions that are usually handled at a health care center or at a psychiatric practice are taken care of. I also have a so-called Step 1 training in cognitive-behavioral-therapy, hence, CBT-techniques are woven into the care when appropriate.
I already belong to a primary care center. What then?
CaroCare Vård should be seen as a complement to the care you already have. The practice is entirely private; therefore, you will still belong to you ordinary health care center.
What about urgent medical care?
CaroCare Vård does not provide urgent medical care. You will still have to contact your health care center or emergency department for that.
If you need emergency medical care, it’s vital that you don’t wait. Follow the same procedure as before: call 1177, contact your health care center or emergency department, or dial 112 in the case of a life-threatening condition. Remember, immediate action can make a significant difference in emergency situations.
Can referrals be sent from the practice?
I can refer to publicly funded care. However, the receiving clinic chooses whether they accept you or not. I am happy to cooperate with the people involved in your care, such as other doctors or psychologists, so that you receive the best care possible.
If you carry private health insurance I can write a referral, which you can pass on to your insurance company. It is your insurance company, which decides what to do with the information in the referral.
What applies to sampling and X-rays?
You can submit answers to investigations already undertaken by another care provider. If lab samples are taken in private healthcare, we can usually access them electronically with your consent. Tests and X-rays prescribed by CaroCare Vård are paid for entirely by you, as the practice does not receive any public subsidies.
What applies to certificates, for example by sick leave?
If you belong to the practice, you are also entitled to receive a certificate. Certificates must be objective and account for the facts. If a certificate is to be issued, a visit is necessary to get a better idea of what is needed for the certificate. It is important to remember that the certificate is not decision-making. For example, in the case of sick leave, it is the Social Insurance Agency that decides.
I have done an ADHD assessment that shows I have ADHD. Can I get ADHD treatment at CaroCare Vård?
Since CaroCare Vård is a psychiatric clinic, you can get treatment for ADHD.
What applies to medicines that are classified as narcotics?
Certain considerations must be taken into account when prescribing drugs classified as narcotics. The treatment must have a clear goal, and vigilance must be in place regarding the risks associated with such medications. Hence, certain requirements are necessary, such as access to retrieved prescriptions from the pharmacy or special testing.
What applies to a private practice in terms of laws and regulations?
All health and medical care, both private and public, is registered with the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO), which supervises the practice. Clear requirements exist, among other things, regarding active work on patient safety. My own son was injured for life completely unnecessarily when a dentist, despite optimal conditions, actively chose not to provide the necessary treatment. After that, no issue is as important to me as patient safety. All comments and dialogues concerning patient safety are more than welcome and are given the highest priority. A medical practice must also operate according to science and proven experience. This is made clear, among other things, in ch. 6. Section 1 of the Patient Safety Act.
Precise requirements also exist regarding privacy issues, and a central authority for this is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection. A person’s state of health is particularly worthy of protection. According to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the starting point is that such data is prohibited from processing – unless there are special reasons. Such reasons appear in the Patient Data Act, which gives the healthcare system the obligation, for example, to keep journal entries. Secrecy is, however, very strong, even if it can be broken, for example, in the case of the requirement to report concerns about children who are suspected of being in harm’s way or report to the Swedish Transport Agency about unfitness to hold a driver’s license. However, more information than necessary must not be provided.
There are, of course, lots of other laws and regulations a doctor’s office has to deal with. If you have questions about it, please come back. For patients who belong to the practice, further information is available under the Patient Portal. Although laws and regulations may seem cumbersome at times, they are enacted by our elected representatives and are thus part of our democracy. There are a lot of good things to be gleaned from the legislation; read, for example, the Patient Act, and you will understand what I mean.
What does it mean for costs that CaroCare Vård is completely private?
An entirely private practice receives no compensation from public funds. This means that patient fees pay for everything, which differs from private practices that receive public funds according to the laws: Freedom of Choice System Act or the Medical Reimbursement Act. At such practices, costs are regulated and subsidized and free card apply. At an utterly private practice, free card do not apply and the cost may vary. In addition, the patient pays for costs such as sampling.
